TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The National Police's Criminal Investigation Agency (Bareskrim) has arrested five individuals involved in hoarding subsidized diesel fuel by exploiting MyPertamina QR codes belonging to farmers in Kamijaya Village, Karawang Regency, West Java.
"Their modus operandi involved creating and processing purchase recommendation letters for diesel fuel for farmers and several local residents at the village government office, in order to obtain MyPertamina barcodes," said Brigadier General Nunung Syaifuddin, Director of Certain Criminal Acts Divison at Bareskrim, during a press conference at the Awaloedin Djamin Hall, Bareskrim Building, on Thursday, March 6, 2025.
Armed with the MyPertamina QR codes from the farmers, the suspects repeatedly purchased subsidized diesel from gas stations. They then resold the fuel at non-subsidized prices for profit.
Bareskrim has named five suspects in the case, each with a specific role in the smuggling and illegal sale of fuel. They are LA, HB, S, AS, and E. The suspects have been charged under Article 40 Number IX of the Omnibus Law on Job Creation, as amended by Article 55 of Law Number 22 of 2021 on Oil and Gas, which carries a penalty of up to 6 years in prison and a fine of up to Rp60 billion.
According to the suspects' confession, they had been involved in this illegal activity for a year. Nunung explained that the suspects sold the subsidized diesel for Rp8,600 per liter, while the actual subsidized price is Rp6,800.
Over this period, the suspects reportedly earned a total profit of Rp3,072,000,000.
The police have yet to calculate the exact state losses caused by this case. However, Nunung emphasized that the state losses from their actions are likely much greater than the profits the suspects earned. The police are also investigating who the suspects sold the fuel to, with suspicions pointing to the industrial sector and activities reliant on industrial diesel.
