A rough defeat at the hands of rivals Duke has doomed Bill Belichick and the University of North Carolina Tar Heels to a season without a postseason appearance.
In Belichick's first season at the helm of UNC, there has been plenty of controversy surrounding his relationship with girlfriend Jordon Hudson, angry parents of players and most of all - the lack of success.
Belichick's inaugural campaign was officially deemed a failure with the 32-25 defeat at home to the Blue Devils.
This loss doomed the Tar Heels to a season without a bowl game appearance - which is traditionally given to teams with a regular season record of 6-6 or better.
With one game to go, and UNC sitting at 4-7 after the Duke loss, the Tar Heels are now unable to qualify.
Now, with the season effectively going nowhere, angry UNC fans lashed out at Belichick and the program on social media.

'Worst coached team in college football. For the love of all things that are good, please Bill's washed a** out of chapel hill,' said one fan.
'[Defensive coordinator] Steve Belichick, [Offensive coordinator] Freddie kitchens, [General manager] Mike Lombardi, Bill Belichick, [Athletic director] Bubba Cunningham should be banned from setting foot on the University of North Carolinas hallowed grounds…this group has robbed, literally robbed the University with 'trust the process'! I am disgusted,' another fan raged.
One comment read, 'Belichick is a pathetic joke of a coach. No discipline, no accountability, dating basically a teenager, hiring his family members who have no clue, turned the entire program into a joke….the entire program is the joke of college football.'
Another rant went as follows: 'BB is not in control of his team. The lack of fundamental discipline, a prequisite for competitiveness, is astounding. This first year has been an epic failure even with adjusted post hype expectations. He and staff have done what I never thought would be acceptable at Carolina, become a national embarrassment. They are the [Miami Dolphins head coach] Mike McDaniel and [now-fired Dolphins GM] Chris Grier of college football. I have more hope in my Dolphin's future than my Tar Heels. BB will now be remembered more for his geriatric dalliance, nepotism, and stoic arrogance than his Super Bowl wins. There was a reason BB was an available hire.'
A different comment bemoaned, 'Bill's post game comments , We have to coach better. Lol. What a disaster today.'
The loss put UNC at 4-7 on the season with a game to go - eliminating them from a bowl game
After the game, Belichick said he was 'not worried about anything in the future'
Those comments from Belichick were likely to anger any Tar Heels fan. When asked about how he felt regarding bowl elimination, the former Super Bowl champion said, 'We're just playing one game at a time, not worried about anything in the future. We're worried about Duke, prepared for Duke. Now, we'll go for NC State.'
While the coach mentioned he was 'really proud of the effort' of his team from earlier in the week, he admitted, 'Obviously came up a few plays short. And it's disappointing.
'Give Duke credit, they made a few more plays than we did at critical times, and ultimately that was the difference in the game.
'So just keep grinding here, go back to work and be ready for NC State next week. But just made too many mistakes, too many bad plays, obviously, too many penalties. So that's about the story.'
