TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia’s flag carrier, Garuda Indonesia, is preparing as many as 14 aircraft to serve Hajj pilgrims this year. Garuda’s President Director Wamildan Tsani Panjaitan said the company will carry 90,933 pilgrims in 2025, who will be flown from seven embarkation points.
"With a total of 90,933 passengers to be carried from Banda Aceh, Medan, Jakarta, Solo, Balikpapan, Makassar, and Lombok," said Wamildan during a meeting with the DPR Commission VIII in Senayan, Central Jakarta, on Thursday, April 17, 2025.
The types of aircraft prepared by Garuda Indonesia vary. For Jakarta, Makassar, Lombok, and Banda Aceh embarkations, Boeing 777 aircraft are provided, with two Airbus 330-900 and one leased Airbus 330-300. Garuda also prepares one Airbus 330-300 aircraft as a reserve.
"So, the total number of aircraft is 13 + 1. One will be used as a backup," said Wamildan.
He stated that Garuda will communicate with the Saudi authorities regarding the return of the hajj pilgrims, whether the reserve aircraft can be stationed in Saudi Arabia to save time in case of irregularities during the Hajj operation.
Wamildan ensured that the aircraft were in accordance with the applicable provisions, as conveyed in the previous working committee meeting. Moreover, he said, the aircraft are in much better condition, with some of the leased aircraft expected to conclude maintenance by the end of this month.
"For leased aircraft, we report that the latest they will arrive and undergo the final checks is at the end of this month, from Thai AirAsia and World2Fly. As for the aircraft from San Marino, it has undergone maintenance and has been completed at GMF," said Wamildan.
