TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A Pakistani official on Friday, April 18, 2025, stated that the country has deported more than 84,000 Afghan nationals since late March, as part of a repatriation drive.
As reported by Anadolu, Pakistan's Interior Minister's adviser, Talal Chaudhry, said in a press conference in the capital Islamabad that Afghan refugees wishing to stay in Pakistan after April 30 are required to obtain a valid visa.
Afghan citizens without legal documents or only holding the Afghan Citizen Cards were previously asked to return to their country before March 31. However, the deadline was later extended until April 30, 2025.
According to Chaudhry, around 25,000 of the deported had the Afghan Citizen Cards, while the rest had no official documentation.
He added that those deported are currently being temporarily housed in transit centers before being repatriated across the border to Afghanistan.
Meanwhile, Pakistan's Foreign Minister, Ishaq Dar, is scheduled to visit Kabul on Saturday, April 19, 2025.
He will be accompanied by a high-level delegation and is expected to meet with the acting Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Afghanistan.
The refugee issue is expected to be one of the topics of discussion in the meeting, alongside other issues.
