Gary Neville believes Benjamin Sesko is 'miles off' the standard of Manchester United's other new attackers.

The Red Devils legend thinks Sesko looks 'awkward' while playing and needs to give United more bang for their buck.

Sesko signed for £73.7million from RB Leipzig but has so far failed to live up to the hype, only scoring twice in 11 games.

Meanwhile, fellow newboys Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha have been lauded for their partnership as number 10s - though they both signed from other Premier League clubs.

Mbeumo already has five goals to his name but Cunha is only on one and, like Sesko, has struggled to provide much end product.

But Neville came down hardest on Sesko, 22, saying: 'He's miles off it compared to the other forwards United brought in, like Cunha and Mbeumo.

Benjamin Sesko is 'miles off it' at Manchester United, according to Gary Neville

Neville says you 'want to see something more' from Sesko after he signed for £73.7million

'He looks awkward, his touch was off a few times when balls went over the top.

'For £80m (£73.7m), yes he's young and still settling but you want to see something more.'

Neville was speaking after Manchester United's 2-2 draw at Nottingham Forest, during which Sesko had three shots but failed to hit the target.

The youngster cut an isolated figure, only having 21 touches - less than half that of any other starter for the team, despite playing the full game.

After a barren run of six games without a goal, there was a feeling that the Slovenian had turned a corner a few weeks ago when he netted in consecuitve games against Brentford and Sunderland.

But he has now drawn a blank in three more games, even when United have enjoyed an uptick in form.

His tally of goals, two in 11 games, is fewer than Rasmus Hojlund managed in the same period after he joined United in 2023. The Dane managed three.

United didn't pluck Sesko out of nowhere. They were interested in him seven years ago but his camp wanted to give him a steady apprenticeship via two years in the Bundesliga.

Those two years were fruitful. Sesko scored 39 goals in two seasons at Leipzig and was one of the most sought-after young strikers in Europe when United signed him.

And his United team-mates have faith in him. Bruno Fernandes recently said: 'Obviously, we know Ben will be judged by scoring goals or not. But apart [from] that, he's been doing great, whatever he's being asked to do.

'He's got his goals already, and I think now it's going to come more and more because he's more than capable of scoring goals.

'Ben is very eager to learn and that's very good from someone that has done very well in the Bundesliga and everything.

'He came with the biggest price tag. But in his mind, he's like, I want to learn, I want to become better.

'Then on the weekends, he transforms himself into a different person on the pitch.

'He's someone that is like, 'I know what I have to do. I want to score goals. I'm going to get into the box, I'm going to get into duels. I'm going to win my headers'. And that's very important for us.'
