TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Palestinian medical personnel and rescue teams found three more bodies from the rubble in the Gaza Strip, bringing the total number of Gaza fatalities due to the Israeli genocide since October 2023 to 48,577 people, the Ministry of Health said on Monday, March 17, 2025.
A ministry statement said the death toll includes one Palestinian killed by Israeli army gunfire and another who died from their injuries in the past 24 hours.
Nine injured Palestinians were transferred to hospitals, bringing the total number of casualties to 112,041 in Israel's intense attacks, it added.
"Many victims are still trapped under the rubble and on the streets because rescue teams cannot reach them," the ministry said.
A ceasefire agreement and prisoner exchange have been in place in Gaza since January 19, halting the Israeli war that has caused widespread destruction and left pockets of Palestine in ruins.
Despite the ceasefire, local authorities in Gaza report almost daily violations of the ceasefire by the Israeli army.
Since March 2, Israel has also completely blocked humanitarian aid, including food supplies and medicines, from entering Gaza. A few days later, Israel also cut off the electricity supply that powers the seawater desalination project, making it even more difficult for Palestinians in Gaza to access clean water.
Israel's latest war crimes were committed to pressure Hamas to agree to an extension of the initial ceasefire phase, freeing all hostages, without obliging Israel to withdraw its forces from Gaza.
The International Criminal Court (ICC) issued arrest warrants in November last year for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza. Israel also faces genocide charges in the International Court of Justice (ICJ) for its war in that region.
