TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Government Information Office in Gaza responded on Thursday to the threat made by U.S. President Donald Trump against Hamas. They stated that the root of the problem is Israel's occupation of Palestinian territories, not Hamas.

"Our people or the resistance in Gaza have never been the problem. The problem has always been the occupation (Israel)," said Selame Maruf, as quoted by Anadolu.

Maruf then criticized Trump's statement, which he believes "give absolute support and encouragement to the war criminal (Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin) Netanyahu, allowing him the power and capability to continue committing crimes against 2.4 million people."

"What is happening today in the West Bank and Jerusalem is the best evidence of this,"  Maruf said.

Earlier, Trump issued a strong warning to Hamas, demanding the immediate release of all hostages held in Gaza, threatening severe consequences if not obeyed.

"Release all of the Hostages now, not later, and immediately return all of the dead bodies of the people you murdered, or it is OVER for you," he said in a post on his platform, Truth Social.

Trump also promised full support for Israel.

"I am sending Israel everything it needs to finish the job, not a single Hamas member will be safe if you don’t do as I say."

He also threatened Hamas leaders to leave Gaza while they "still have the chance," calling it a "last warning" for them.

Trump then threatened the people of Gaza, linking their future to the fate of the hostages.

"A beautiful Future awaits, but not if you hold Hostages. If you do, you are DEAD! Make a SMART decision."

He ended his statement with a firm message: "RELEASE THE HOSTAGES NOW, OR THERE WILL BE HELL TO PAY LATER!"
