TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A German national was found dead in a swimming pool of a villa in Gili Air, North Lombok Regency, West Nusa Tenggara, on Wednesday, February 10, 2025, at around 8:30 a.m. local time, confirmed Pemenang Police Chief Adjunct Commissioner I Made Susila Artana.
The police are working to uncover the cause of death. “We have followed up on the initial report and are conducting further investigation to find out the exact cause of the foreigner’s death,” he said in a written statement on Wednesday.
Susila said the police have investigated the crime scene upon receiving the report. Several witnesses have been questioned, and the body has been evacuated to a hospital to determine the cause of death.
"We have coordinated with a medical team to conduct a post-mortem examination to eliminate possible causes and to discover the cause of death,” said Susila.
Based on witness statements, the German national with initials HFCI, together with two friends, HM (38) and KL (24), returned to the villa yesterday at around 11:00 p.m. local time, after spending time at the beach. HM and KL are also German citizens.
Upon arriving at the housing, the three of them swam in the pool for about an hour. At around midnight, HM and KL returned to their room to rest while the victim remained at the pool.
The next morning, the two friends of the victim came out of their room and discovered HFCI had drowned at the bottom of the swimming pool. “They immediately reported the incident to the villa receptionist, who then forwarded the information to the police officers," said Susila.
