TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Google Maps now presents a new feature that enables users to obtain real-time information about the Commuter Line Electric Train (KRL), starting from the arrival times at stations to the train's position directly or in real-time.
This step was taken to anticipate the 2025 homecoming season, ensuring a better travel experience for the public.
Strategic Partnerships Development Manager of Google Maps Indonesia, Galuh Rohmah, revealed that searches related to the exodus information and travel routes always increase before Ramadan.
"So one of the highest searches during Ramadan is the information around homecoming or homecoming routes," said Galuh at the Google #TemanRamadan event in Jakarta, Thursday, March 6, 2025.
Galuh stated that this new feature is the result of a collaboration between Google and PT Kereta Commuter Indonesia (PT KCI).
"From this holy month, we are trying to help Google Maps users who use public transportation effectively plan their trips," she said.
Now, Google Maps can display KRL schedule information. Not only the schedule, but also the estimated arrival time of the train at the station, train position tracking, and notifications if the train is delayed or arrives earlier. "In Google Maps starting this month, you can see real-time information," said Galuh.
In addition to KRL, Google Maps also provides information about long-distance trains to facilitate the travels of exodus participants, such as train departure schedules, stopping stations, and train names. "Because there will definitely be additional trains, special additional trains for the homecoming, all of which can be accessed on Google Maps," said Galuh.
Not only public transportation, Google also pays attention to travelers who use private vehicles, whether through toll roads or non-toll roads.
Galuh mentioned that Google Maps will provide navigation information through collaborations with several relevant agencies such as the Indonesian National Police (Polri), Jasa Marga, Korlantas, and the Ministry of Transportation. Galuh said that Google is scheduled to have a coordination meeting with these agencies on March 11, 2025.
