TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Palestinian movement Hamas has stated its readiness to hand over control of the Gaza Strip to the Palestinian National Authority and the government commission, according to a report by Sky News Arabia, as cited by Antara on Monday, February 17, 2025.

According to the source, Hamas has set conditions for handing over power to the Palestinian National Authority.

These conditions include the need to maintain jobs for employees in the new government or provide them with retirement benefits and guaranteed salary payments.

According to the source, the decision to relinquish power was made by Hamas leaders after facing strong pressure from Egypt during the latest negotiations in Cairo.

Meanwhile, Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty affirmed that a plan to reconstruct Gaza is being developed in coordination with the Palestinians and Arab states, as well as international support.

Abdelatty made the statement on Sunday during a meeting in Cairo with a US Congress delegation led by Darrell Issa, the Deputy Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee.

In his statement, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry stated that Abdelatty outlined Egypt's intensive efforts to develop a comprehensive and multi-phase plan for early recovery and reconstruction in Gaza, to ensure that the Palestinian people remain in their land.

US President Donald Trump has repeatedly called for the takeover of Gaza and the resettlement of its residents to build what he refers to as the "The Riviera of the Middle East."

This idea has been rejected by the Arab world and many other countries, stating that it is tantamount to ethnic cleansing, which constitutes a war crime.

Abdelatty stressed that Egypt's vision for the reconstruction of Gaza is being designed in coordination with the Palestinian Authority, Arab and Islamic countries, and the broader international community.

He also emphasized the need for a "political horizon" to resolve the decades-long Israeli-Palestinian conflict and break the cycle of recurring violence.

He reiterated Egypt's support for the establishment of a united Palestinian state, encompassing the West Bank and Gaza, based on a two-state solution.
