A huge brawl broke out at the Mexico Grand Prix as rival fans traded punches beneath the grandstand in Mexico City.

The violent scenes unfolded ahead of Saturday's qualifying session, with videos on social media showing groups of spectators clashing in the lower stands as drinks and fists flew.

One man wearing Ferrari colours exchanged blows with another in a Red Bull shirt before several others joined in. In a separate scuffle, a spectator was kicked while on the ground as beer was sprayed across the concourse.

According to reports, the unrest began shortly before cars took to the track and spread quickly through the section, with security staff struggling to intervene as more fans became involved.

The footage ended with more angry words being exchanged as the crowd began to disperse.

It capped an eventful weekend at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodríguez, where Lando Norris claimed victory on Sunday to move top of the Formula One world championship standings.

The McLaren driver, 25, took his fifth win of the season to overtake team-mate Oscar Piastri by a single point with four races remaining.

Ferrari's Charles Leclerc finished second, while Red Bull's Max Verstappen took third.

Norris's triumph came after a weekend of controversy on and off the track. Racing Bulls driver Liam Lawson narrowly avoided hitting two marshals who ran across Turn One during the race, prompting outrage from the New Zealander.

'Wait, the f***? Oh my God, are you kidding me? Did you just see that?' Lawson shouted over team radio, before adding: 'I could've f***ing killed him mate.'

Speaking afterwards, Lawson said: 'I honestly couldn't believe what I was seeing. I nearly hit one of them, it was so dangerous.

'Obviously, there's been a miscommunication somewhere, but I've never experienced that before. It's pretty unacceptable.'

The FIA later issued a statement explaining that marshals had been placed on standby to clear debris from Turn One but were told to stand down after Lawson entered the pits.

The governing body confirmed that an investigation was under way into how the incident occurred.

Despite the off-track flashpoints, Norris maintained focus to secure a commanding win, describing his afternoon as 'a pretty straightforward race'.

His victory extended McLaren's dominance at the top of both championships heading into the next round in Brazil.
