TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Composite Stock Price Index (IHSG) plunged freely in today's first session. Trading was halted for 30 minutes after the index dropped more than 5 percent before closing the session at 6,076 (-6.11 percent). Research Samuel Sekuritas mentioned that this decline contradicts the movement of the global and regional markets.

Based on the same research, Samuel Sekuritas noted that the Asian market also captured positive sentiment from the U.S. and tended to strengthen; by the end of the first session today, the Hang Seng index strengthened by +1.8 percent, as well as Nikkei (+1.5 percent), Kospi (+0.1 percent), and STI (+0.9 percent), while Shanghai (+0.0 percent) tended to be flat.

By the end of today's first session, 75 stocks strengthened, 652 weakened, and 122 stagnated, with a transaction value reaching Rp10.2 trillion, a trading frequency of 888,162 times, and a trading volume of 159.2 million lots.

Bank BCA (BBCA) stock became the most actively traded stock in the first session today, with a transaction frequency of 61,204 times, followed by PSAB (49,115), and PTRO (38,038). In terms of volume, GoTo Gojek Tokopedia (GOTO) stock became the most traded in the first session today with a trading volume of 24.8 million lots, followed by BUMI (8.2 million), and PSAB (6.8 million).

Not a single sectoral index strengthened in the first session today. Meanwhile, the technology sector index (IDXTECHNO) (-12.4 percent) once again became the sectoral index with the deepest decline in the first session today, amid the weakening of several technology stocks such as DCII (-20 percent), EDGE (-12.8 percent), and EMTK (-9.6 percent). The basic goods sector index(IDXBASIC) (-9.7 percent) placed second, followed by the energy sector index (IDXENERGY) (-6.2 percent).

Aside from technology stocks, IHSG also faced pressure from the decline of several other stocks, including big-cap duo Prajogo Pangestu's BREN (-16.3 percent) and TPIA (-19.9 percent) (TPIA just reported a net loss of US$69,163 million in 2024, up 109.09 percent from its loss in 2023), BBCA (-4.6 percent), BMRI (-6.6 percent), BBRI (-6.2 percent), and PANI (-15.2 percent).
