TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian U-23 national team fell 1–2 to India in a friendly match held at Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium, Senayan, Jakarta, on Friday, October 10, 2025. The game served as part of both teams’ preparations for the upcoming 2025 SEA Games.
India struck early through Suhail Ahmad Bhat, who netted twice in the 5th and 26th minutes. Indonesia managed to pull one back before halftime, with Dony Tri Pamungkas scoring in the 41st minute after a neat pass from Toni Firmansyah.
Despite a better-organized second-half performance, the Garuda Muda squad were unable to find an equalizer. Their defense tightened after the break, and the midfield began to connect more fluidly, but a string of missed chances denied them a comeback.
The two sides are set to meet again in a rematch on Monday night, October 13, 2025.
Match Summary
First Half
Indonesia were immediately under pressure as India capitalized on an early defensive lapse. In the 5th minute, Suhail Ahmad Bhat pounced on a misplaced pass, sprinted forward, and fired past goalkeeper Cahya Supriadi to make it 0–1.
The Garuda Muda tried to respond with higher intensity through Hokky Caraka and Dony Tri Pamungkas, but India’s defense remained compact.
In the 26th minute, India doubled their lead when Suhail again found the net from close range after a scramble in front of goal, assisted by Ayush Dev Chhetri.
Indonesia reduced the deficit in the 41st minute, as Dony Tri Pamungkas converted a clever through ball from Toni Firmansyah to make it 1–2 before the break.
Second Half
Coach Indra Sjafri made several changes to rejuvenate his side. Muhammad Ardiansyah replaced Cahya Supriadi in goal, while Arkhan Fikri came in for Toni Firmansyah. Later, Rahmat Arjuna Reski, Mikael Alfredo Tata, Rivaldo Enero Pakpahan, and Raka Cahyana Rizky were also introduced.
India made fewer changes but remained composed in defense. Indonesia began to dominate possession and looked more confident going forward, though they struggled to break through India’s solid backline.
In the 58th minute, Hokky Caraka made way for Jens Raven, but despite several late pushes — including efforts from Kadek Arel Priyatna and Zanadin Fariz — Indonesia could not find the equalizer.
The match ended 1–2, giving India the edge ahead of their second encounter next week.
