TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian women's singles badminton player Gregoria Mariska Tunjung advanced to the round of 16 at the BWF Super 750 India Open 2025 after a hard-fought three-game victory on Tuesday, January 14.
Gregoria secured a win over Danish opponent Line Christophersen with a score of 25-27, 21-12, 21-11 in the round of 32 match held in New Delhi.
The fourth-seeded Gregoria started the first game strong and was dominant. However, Christophersen fought back fiercely, equalizing the score several times. Despite leading 14-11, Gregoria faced a strong challenge from the world number 37 women's singles player and was eventually overtaken at 19-17.
Both players engaged in intense and closely contested rallies. After six match points, Christophersen finally clinched the first game with a score of 27-25.
The second game became a test of endurance for both players after the draining first game. Gregoria capitalized on this, playing with more composure and accumulating points. The 2024 Paris Olympics bronze medalist displayed impressive speed and dominance, taking control of the game and securing a 21-12 victory.
In the decisive third game, Gregoria employed a similar strategy, playing more aggressively and effectively placing her shots. She quickly gained an advantage and ultimately won the game 21-11.
Meanwhile, four other Indonesian representatives will compete in the round of 32 of the 2025 India Open on Wednesday, January 15. These include men's singles player Jonatan Christie, men's doubles pair Fajar Alfian / Muhammad Rian Ardianto, and two mixed doubles pairs: Dejan Ferdinansyah / Siti Fadia Silva Ramadhanti and Rinov Rivaldy / Lisa Ayu Kusumawati.
