TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Director of PT Indofood Sukses Makmur Tbk, Fransiscus Welirang, opened his voice regarding the news of product withdrawal Indomie from Australia. The figure, familiarly called Franky, said the goods were products exported by individuals, not by his company.
"I think it is a parallel export product, a product exported by individuals in mixed containers containing various Indonesian products," Franky said when contacted by Tempo, on Thursday, December 19, 2024.
According to him, many products from Indonesia are in such mixed containers. This includes not only Indomie but also UMKM products such as crackers. Franky said the official export products from Indofood differed from those questioned by the official authorities in Australia. "The same thing used to happen in Taiwan," he said.
Previously, news circulated that Indomie products were withdrawn from Australia because they were considered not to state allergen content. As reported on the news.com.au page, the Indomie Soto Mie flavor is said not to include milk allergen content, while Indomie Ayam Bawang is said not to include egg allergen content.
In the news, Grant Eastern Trading, as a distributor in Australia, is said to have issued a recall order for the two Indomie flavors. Food Standards Australia has also provided an official statement and advised consumers to return the product to the place of purchase for a refund.
"Any consumer who has an allergy or intolerance to milk and eggs may experience a reaction if they consume this product," Food Standards Australia said.
When asked about management's stance, Franky said customs authorities in each country need to ensure the circulation of goods from overseas. "It's illegal goods entering Australia. We don't know who can buy products in the local market and export them to other countries," Franky said.
