TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian national team will have four more matches to play in Group C of the third round of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. After the first six matches, Shin Tae-yong's team will resume competition in March next year.
On March 20, 2025, the Indonesian national team will play an away match against Australia. Five days later, on March 25, 2025, Indonesia will host Bahrain at the Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) Stadium.
Rollercoaster in the first six matches
The road ahead for the Indonesian national team in Group C is full of challenges. Rizky Ridho and his teammates will face three of the five teams who have played in the 2022 World Cup, making the competition even tougher.
But the Garuda team has shown resilience. In their first two matches, Indonesia managed to hold Saudi Arabia and Australia to draws.
In their third match against Bahrain, Indonesia was on the verge of victory, leading 2-1 until the final minutes. Unfortunately, Mohamed Marhoon scored the equalizer in the 90th minute to force a draw.
Indonesia's chance to secure their first win was thwarted again when they traveled to Qingdao Youth Stadium to face China. The Chinese team defeated Indonesia 2-1.
On the fifth matchday, Indonesia hosted Group C leaders Japan, and despite putting up a good fight, the Garuda team lost 4-0 at the GBK Stadium.
However, the defeat sparked a resurgence. In their next match, the Indonesian national team defeated Saudi Arabia 2-0 at the GBK Stadium on November 19, 2024. Young midfielder Marselino Ferdinan was the hero, scoring two goals in the 32nd and 57th minutes.
Next Schedule for the Indonesian National Team
- vs Australia (Away): March 20, 2025
- vs Bahrain (Home): March 25, 2025
- vs China (Home): June 5, 2025
- vs Japan (Away): June 10, 2025
