TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung announced that the status of the Manggarai Water Gate has been downgraded from alert level 2 to alert level 4, with the water level now at 60 centimeters. Initially, the water level at the gate had reached 850 centimeters on Tuesday, March 4.
“Based on aerial view, it looks like life in Jakarta has returned to normal,” Pramono said after surveying the flood situation by helicopter from Bhayangkara Field at the National Police Headquarters, South Jakarta, on Thursday, March 6.
Although all floodwaters in Jakarta have receded, Pramono acknowledged that there are still several issues that need to be addressed, particularly the normalization of the Ciliwung River in Pengadengan, Cawang, and Bidara Cina.
The governor stressed that river normalization in these areas is crucial, as overflow from Ciliwung causes severe flooding during heavy rainfall. Pramono has instructed the Head of the Water Resources Agency to follow up on this matter.
Additionally, Pramono plans to prioritize land acquisition in flood-prone areas. To facilitate the initiative, he will coordinate with the Ministry of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning/National Land Agency (ATR/BPN).
The governor emphasized that in carrying out land acquisition, the Jakarta government must adopt a humane approach when engaging with affected communities.
