TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono met with his Saudi Arabian counterpart Prince Faisal Bin Farhan Al Saud on the sidelines of the 2025 World Economic Forum (WEF) Annual Meeting in Davos, Switzerland, on January 23, 2025. The meeting focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation between the two countries and the planned visit of Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
According to a statement released by the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, both Ministers also discussed the planned working visit of Prince Faisal Bin Farhan Al Saud to Indonesia and explored potential outcomes for this visit.
In addition to discussing bilateral cooperation, Sugiono and Prince Faisal Bin Farhan Al Saud addressed the recent developments in the Palestinian situation. Sugiono expressed support for the ceasefire agreement in Gaza and emphasized the importance of its full implementation to prevent further loss of life.
This meeting marked the first bilateral engagement between the two Foreign Ministers since Minister Sugiono assumed office in October 2024.
Previously, in 2023, former Indonesian Trade Minister Zulkifli Hasan acknowledged the significant potential for enhancing trade relations between Indonesia and Saudi Arabia. He emphasized the opportunity for businesses in both countries to strengthen collaboration amidst the ongoing global challenges.
Saudi Arabia is currently the 24th largest destination for Indonesia's non-oil and gas exports. Despite existing trade ties, there remains ample room for improvement and expansion in various sectors.
