TEMPO.CO, JakartaIndonesia’s Foreign Minister, Sugiono, called for an inclusive internal dialogue involving all stakeholders to achieve lasting peace and stability in Myanmar. The minister conveys the statement during the Dipomacy Dialogue on Myanmar on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum (WEF) Annual Meeting 2025 in Davos-Klosters, Switzerland, on January 22, 2025.

Sugiono is concerned about the persistent internal conflict in Myanmar. The crisis that has been ongoing since 2021 has also led to various other security threats, including the surge in transnational crimes and the proliferation of opium production in Myanmar.

“Indonesia remains committed to supporting the creation of a conducive situation and a safe space for dialogue to take place,” the minister said.

The Indonesian minister also pointed to the ASEAN ministers’ joint commitment to push for the implementation of the five-point consensus.

Sugiono invited partners to provide humanitarian assistance for Myanmar through the ASEAN Coordinating Center for Humanitarian Assistance on Disaster Management (AHA Center).

The Foreign Minister also stressed that resolving the Rohingya refugees issue is the key to ending the Myanmar crisis.

The Diplomacy Dialogue on Myanmar was a limited meeting that discussed international efforts to find diplomatic and joint solutions to the Myanmar crisis.

The discussion was attended by the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, the UN Secretary-General's Special Envoy on Myanmar, the President of the International Red Cross, the Director-General of the International Organization for Migration, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Thailand. Also present were a number of leaders of international civil society organizations.

The Myanmar crisis became one of the main agendas raised at the WEF 2025 annual meeting. The participants of the diplomatic dialogue applauded Indonesia's crucial role in resolving the Myanmar issue and expected the role to continue. In addition to being a speaker at WEF, Sugiono is also scheduled to hold bilateral meetings with a number of partner countries on the sidelines of WEF Davos 2025.
