TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Anis Matta officially launched the Joint Campaign for Humanitarian Aid for Gaza with the theme 'Indonesia for Palestine: Solidarity, Concrete Actions, and New Hope.' The inauguration was attended by representatives of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI), the National Alms Agency (Baznas), and more than 30 Indonesian humanitarian organizations.

Anis Matta emphasized Indonesia is committed to supporting Palestinians who have long faced a humanitarian crisis due to the Israeli occupation. "Indonesia's solidarity with Palestine is not only based on religious solidarity, but also a constitutional mandate, a humanitarian emergency call, and a moral legacy from the founding fathers," said Anis at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs office in Central Jakarta on Wednesday, February 26, 2025.

The joint aid campaign is designed to provide greater support to the Palestinians, particularly in Gaza, ranging from emergency humanitarian assistance, and rehabilitation/reconstruction, to community empowerment.

"With the synergy of philanthropic institutions, we are targeting to raise aid amounting to US$200 million (Rp3.2 trillion) for Palestine," said Anis.

Anis stated that the fundraising provides immediate aid and builds new hope for the Palestinians to rise with independence and dignity.

Furthermore, Anis called on Indonesians to make the upcoming Ramadan a moment of solidarity for Palestine. "We must continue to strengthen our determination and solidarity with Palestine. This campaign is officially launched ahead of the holy month of Ramadan to encourage more donations to be collected for Gaza," he said.

In this regard, the Director General of Asia Pacific and Africa at the Foreign Affairs Ministry, Abdul Kadir Jaelani, emphasized that synergy and coordination between the government and Indonesian humanitarian organizations are crucial in raising and distributing aid for Palestine. He urged to form a coordination forum.

"To support this joint campaign, a coordination forum needs to be established to ensure that the campaign is carried out effectively and the distributed aid reaches the right targets, efficiently and accountable," he said.

The launch event concluded with the joint signing of a support banner to symbolize the government's commitment and Indonesian humanitarian organizations to strengthen solidarity and concrete actions for Palestine.
