TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The travel magazine Conde Nast Traveller has placed Indonesia as one of the 28 most beautiful countries in the world, according to the voting results of the U.S. travel magazine editors, released on March 13, 2026. The magazine refers to Indonesia as "one of the crown jewels of Southeast Asia," with some of the world's best islands. One of the places mentioned is Bali. Despite being bustling, tourists can find tranquility in places like Tabanan in the central region, with its waterfalls, butterfly park, and UNESCO-protected rice fields, the magazine suggests.
Other places to explore in Indonesia, according to Conde Nast Traveler, are the Raja Ampat Islands, a choice for divers with its blue straits and rich biodiversity of coral reefs, and the relatively secluded Flores Island, home to white sandy beaches and steep green hills.
Aside from Indonesia, other destinations in Southeast Asia that made it to the list of the most beautiful countries include Vietnam. The magazine writes that the country is a paradise for outdoor enthusiasts and anyone who enjoys beautiful scenery.
The editors recommend Ha Long Bay for its blue waters and the vast expanse of limestone islands covered with tropical trees and home to various wildlife, Ha Giang in the northern highlands that offer stunning views traversed by steep terraced rice fields and trekking routes, and Ninh Van Bay on the central coast that offers beautiful snorkeling and diving.
Although it sounds cliche, the beauty of the most beautiful countries in the world depends on one's perspective. Numerous ancient natural wonders awe visitors with their scale and intricacy.
The Conde Nast Traveler list also includes Argentina, Australia, Bolivia, Brazil, Canada, China, Colombia, Costa Rica, Croatia, France, Greece, Iceland, India, Japan, Mexico, Namibia, New Zealand, Peru, South Africa, Tanzania, United Kingdom, and the United States.
