TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia's state-owned railway company KAI records a surge in sales of train tickets during the Eid holiday season for regional operations (Daop) 6 Yogyakarta.
According to data from Daop 6 Yogyakarta, as of Friday, March 20, or the eve of Eid, the total number of passengers was recorded at more than 45,597 people. Of that number, 24,624 passengers arrived, while 20,973 others departed.
Meanwhile, on Saturday, March 21, 2026, or Eid day, the number of passengers increased to 53,287 people, with 30,812 arrivals and 22,475 departures.
Manager of Public Relations of KAI Daop 6 Yogyakarta, Feni Novida Saragih, mentioned that this surge indicates the high mobility of people during Eid al-Fitr. "On Eid al-Fitr, today, the number of passengers has reached more than 53 thousand people, with the arrival flow still dominating," Feni told journalists on Saturday, March 21, 2026, adding that the arrival peak is estimated for March 22.
"The expected number of passenger arrivals on March 22 has the potential to exceed 30 thousand people in a day," said Feni.
Cumulatively, the ticket sales rate also grew, with over 84 percent sold as of March 20, 2026, which amounted to 436,827 tickets. This number increased to 450,044 tickets or 85 percent capacity on March 21, 2026.
Despite this, KAI mentioned that tens of thousands of tickets are still available until the end of the Eid al-Fitr transport period on April 1, 2026.
Yogyakarta station recorded the highest activity, with 9,984 arrivals on March 20 and 10,816 passengers on March 21. Meanwhile, for departures, there were 8,441 passengers on the eve of Eid and 7,025 passengers on the day of Eid al-Fitr.
Solobalapan and Lempuyangan stations also became important hubs with high passenger volumes, both for arrivals and departures.
Feni urged people to plan their trips well. "We remind customers to ensure their departure schedule and to manage their travel time to the station to avoid rushing," she said, while pushing for users to utilize connecting train feature as an alternative travel method.
