TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian police have recorded a total of 90 traffic accidents during the Eid exodus on March 19-20, 2026. The spokesperson of the 2026 Ketupat Operation, Commissioner Marupa Sagala, said one person died from these incidents.
Additionally, 40 people suffered severe injuries and 138 people sustained minor injuries, with a total material loss reaching Rp581 million. Despite the victims, Marupa stated that the security and public order during the exodus were considered conducive.
"Because there were no significant incidents," Marupa said in his official statement on Friday, March 20, 2026.
Nevertheless, the dynamics on the ground are unavoidable considering the increased mobility of people during this year's homecoming.
Data from the Jasa Marga Command Center shows that a total of 208,825 vehicles left Jakarta through four main toll gates, up 48.15% compared to normal conditions and a 4.05% increase compared to last year's Eid period.
The surge in vehicle volume occurred at the Cikampek Main Toll Gate towards Trans Java, which had the highest traffic flow. On the other hand, the number of vehicles entering Jakarta was recorded at 77,584 vehicles, down 42.22% compared to normal conditions. Nevertheless, there were traffic jams on the Jakarta-Cikampek toll road, but the situation was still under control.
The police have issued 22 traffic violation tickets recorded by the Electronic Traffic Law Enforcement (ETLE) system. In addition, officers also issued 47 warnings as a preventive measure to increase public awareness of traffic rules.
Eid al-Fitr this year also records high mobility in the public transportation sector. There were 112 ferry trips at 37 crossing ports with a total of 32,965 passengers. Specifically, for the Java-Sumatra route, there were 43 trips with a total of 123,540 passengers.
Meanwhile, there have been 1,504 train trips with 616,287 passengers. In the aviation sector alone, there were 1,879 flights with a total of 184,180 passengers.
Marupa urged Eid travelers to prioritize safety by ensuring that their vehicles are in good condition and not pushing themselves if they are tired. He also reminded people to be cautious of the potential for criminal activities, both during the journey and when leaving their houses. People in need of assistance can contact the Indonesian National Police (Polri) at 110. "Available 24 hours a day," said Marupa.
