TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs is in the final stages of preparing the evacuation of Indonesian citizens who are still in Iran after the war with Israel.
The Indonesian Ambassador to Iran, Roy Rolliansyah Soemirat, stated that the scenario for the evacuation of Indonesian citizens is still in the finalization stage.
"However, I cannot disclose it yet due to safety and security concerns as well," Roy told Tempo on Wednesday, July 2, 2025.
Roy said that the Indonesian Embassy in Tehran would continue to evaluate the security situation in Iran and its surroundings. He mentioned that this evaluation aims to determine the optimal course of action for Indonesian citizens still in Iran.
"But shortly, we will concentrate on evacuating several Indonesian citizens who still want to return to Indonesia," he said.
Roy revealed that the Indonesian Embassy is currently finalizing the data collection and logistical details, including the route to be taken during the evacuation.
"However, it should be noted that in any country, the evacuation process of Indonesian citizens is an individual decision, voluntary," he said. "The government is not in a position to force Indonesian individuals to leave conflict-stricken countries, even though the government has already assessed the security situation there."
Nevertheless, Roy reminded Indonesian citizens in Iran to report directly or through the Indonesian Embassy or the Ministry of Foreign Affairs website and application. He said this type of reporting is important because it allows the government to quickly gather data in an emergency.
Earlier this week, 12 Indonesian citizens evacuated from Iran arrived in Indonesia. They took the flight route Baku-Doha-Jakarta with one companion.
"On June 30, 2025, 12 evacuated Indonesian citizens and 1 companion from Iran arrived after traveling the route Baku-Doha-Jakarta," said the Director of Indonesian Citizen Protection at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Judha Nugraha, in a written statement on Tuesday, July 1, 2025.
According to Judha, this arrival marks the final wave of the evacuation of Indonesian citizens from Iran conducted by the Indonesian government following the increased tension in the region. The evacuation was carried out based on the consideration of the safety of the citizens amid the escalation of conflict and an unstable security situation in Iran.
Judha said that 97 people were evacuated from Iran. A total of 386 Indonesian citizens are in Iran.
"The Indonesian government has evacuated a total of 97 evacuees, comprising 96 Indonesian citizens and 1 Iranian citizen, all of whom have arrived safely in Indonesia," he said.
