TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto claimed that Indonesia's digital economy is not afraid of tariff barriers resulting from trade wars. Airlangga said that the potential value of Indonesia's digital economy sector has now reached US$150 billion.

"In the digital sector, we are very dominant. In fact, the value of our digital economy is US$150 billion. And the digital economy is not afraid of tariffs," said Airlangga during the event commemorating the First Year of the Prabowo-Gibran Government at Hotel JS Luwansa, Jakarta, on Thursday, October 16, 2025. He mentioned that one indicator of digital economic development is the 8 percent growth of logistics and warehousing businesses.

Furthermore, Airlangga stated that Indonesia continues to strengthen the digital economy through Local Currency Transaction (LCT) cooperation via the Quick Response Code Indonesian Standard (QRIS). Indonesia has established cooperation with Malaysia, Thailand, Japan, China, South Korea, and the United Arab Emirates.

Currently, Airlangga said that 56 million people use QRIS. He also claimed that the use of QRIS has surpassed credit card usage. "That's why various operators are starting to become concerned about how we can move quickly," he said.

Last August, Bank Indonesia launched the Indonesia-Japan cross-border QRIS. According to the Governor of Bank Indonesia, Perry Warjiyo, as many as 500,000 tourists from both Indonesia and Japan no longer need to use yen or rupiah for transactions. "Wherever they go, to Okachimachi, Donki, Shibuya, wherever, they only need a mobile phone to use QRIS," Perry said in his address in Jakarta, quoted from Bank Indonesia's YouTube live broadcast on Monday, August 25, 2025.

Currently, QRIS can be used in Thailand, Malaysia, and Singapore. As of June 2025, Bank Indonesia had recorded 994,890 cross-border QRIS transactions with Thailand, totaling Rp437.54 billion. Then, the volume of Indonesia-Malaysia QRIS transactions reached 4.31 million with a total value of Rp1.15 trillion. Meanwhile, the volume of Singapore-Indonesia QRIS transactions reached 238,216, with a total value of Rp77.06 billion.
