TEMPO.CO, JakartaThe Indonesian Motorcycle Industry Association (AISI) reported that 572,506 units of motorcycles were exported to various countries in 2024, marking a slight increase in the number of exports compared to the previous year with 570,004 units.

In December 2024, meanwhile, motorcycle exports slowed down to 55,537 units compared to the previous month, which saw the industry exporting a total of 58,868 motorcycle units.

Despite jotting down an export growth in 2024, Indonesia’s motorcycle exports have yet to surpass the records in 2019 and 2021, which recorded overseas sales of 810,433 units and 803,831 units, respectively.

More than half, or 50.06 percent, of the motorcycles exported last year were automatic motorcycles. The figure is followed by underbone motorcycles, which record 25.48 percent exports, and 24.4 percent for sports motorcycles.

As for the domestic market, the motorcycle industry in Indonesia has sold 6.3 million units throughout 2024. This means AISI has achieved the projected motorcycle sales target of between 6.2 million and 6.5 million units.

In total, domestic motorcycle sales in Indonesia reached 6,333,310 units from January to December. The domestic sales are higher than the previous year, which recorded sales of 6,236,992 units in total.

Of the 6.3 million motorcycle units sold last year, 90.39 percent were dominated by automatic motorcycles, followed by underbone motorcycles at 5.40 percent, and finally sports motorcycles at 4.21 percent.
