TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto emphasized the importance of supporting foreign investment, highlighting the benefits it brings to Indonesia’s economy and society.

Prabowo made the remarks during the inauguration of the New Ethylene Project at PT Lotte Chemical Indonesia in Cilegon, Banten, on Thursday, November 6, 2025, as streamed on the Presidential Secretariat’s YouTube channel.

“We should support foreign investment. Let us provide benefits together,” he said.

The former defense minister noted that Indonesia feels honored to partner with foreign investors who have trusted the country with their capital.

“Partners from abroad, investing their hard-earned money here, have believed in us for decades,” Prabowo said.

He stressed that maintaining this trust requires ensuring a comfortable and welcoming environment for investors.

“We must secure and keep them comfortable here. We accept them with open hearts and hands, and there should be no elements that disturb them. We should respect each other and give kindness,” he added.

Prabowo also underscored that investment depends on trust and consistency in upholding the law. “With trust, the Indonesian nation can move quickly toward prosperity,” he said.

During the ceremony, Prabowo officially inaugurated PT Lotte Chemical Indonesia’s New Ethylene Project. He described the operational launch of the factory as a proud milestone and reiterated the government’s commitment to supporting foreign investment.

“I, Prabowo Subianto, President of the Republic of Indonesia, inaugurate PT Lotte Chemical Indonesia, located in Cilegon, Banten,” he said, as reported by Antara.

The project, developed by the South Korean company, is the company’s fifth global facility and Indonesia’s largest modern petrochemical plant.

The factory occupies 107.8 hectares (1.08 million square meters) and represents an investment of around US$4 billion (approximately Rp 66.84 trillion at an exchange rate of Rp16,710 per US dollar).

PT Lotte Chemical Indonesia will produce several strategic petrochemical products, including 1,000 kilotons per year (kTA) of ethylene, 520 kTA of propylene, 350 kTA of polypropylene, 140 kTA of butadiene, and 400 kTA of BTX (benzene, toluene, xylene). The facility is expected to employ tens of thousands of workers.

Following its factories in South Korea, Mexico, the United States, and Malaysia, this fifth facility positions Lotte Chemical within a global chemical sales network totaling US$56 billion in 2024.
