TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto supports ASEAN's move to strengthen economic cooperation with the Republic of Korea, stating that the regional bloc holds significant potential in the digital market.
"The gross digital trade value of this region is projected to reach US$1 trillion by the year 2030," Prabowo said in a statement while attending the 26th ASEAN-Republic of Korea Summit at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC) on Monday, October 27, 2025, as quoted by the Presidential Secretariat.
The former Minister of Defense sees the synergy between ASEAN's digital potential and the technological strength of South Korea could become a driving force for the region's transformation. Together, Prabowo believes ASEAN and South Korea could helm the progress in digital infrastructure, talent development, and Artificial Intelligence (AI) governance.
"We aspire for ASEAN to advance rapidly as a vital engine for global growth," he said.
The Chair of the Gerindra Party emphasizes the importance of strengthening ASEAN's partnership with the Republic of Korea (ROK) while facing increasingly complex global challenges. "In this dynamic landscape, it is very important for ASEAN and ROK to work together to keep our economy open, connected, and inclusive," he said.
Prabowo emphasizes that bolstering economic cooperation mechanisms is key to achieving these goals. According to him, a fully implemented regional comprehensive economic partnership and the ASEAN-Republic of Korea free trade area must be enhanced.
However, Prabowo also emphasizes the importance of maintaining peace and stability as the foundation for economic development. The head of state also reaffirms Indonesia's support for South Korea's constructive role in maintaining world peace.
The 47th ASEAN Summit is held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on October 26-28, 2025, gathering ASEAN heads of state, including the newly inaugurated Prime Minister of Thailand.
