TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Ministry of Health has set up 1,574 health posts across the country to support smooth travel during the Christmas and New Year holidays. Azhar Jaya, the ministry’s director-general of health services, said the posts are located in strategic areas such as toll roads, rest areas, arterial road intersections, tourist spots, airports, terminals, and seaports. He also mentioned that health personnel at these posts will work in three shifts to ensure 24-hour service availability.
"During the Christmas and Year-end holidays, we also ensure health centers along the Pantura (North Coast) route and major roads remain open 24 hours. There won’t be any leave days for health workers at these facilities," Azhar said while monitoring a health post in Karawang, West Java, on Tuesday, December 24.
Azhar added that 266 health posts are provided specifically in West Java to offer integrated health services to travelers. Additionally, 97 hospitals are prepared as referral centers, including nine hospitals near the health post at KM 57 in Karawang.
The health posts provide basic health checks such as blood pressure and blood sugar tests, as well as emergency care. Each post is equipped with patient beds, medical equipment like blood pressure monitors, stethoscopes, IV equipment, medications, oxygen tanks, emergency supplies, consultation tables, chairs, and medicine storage. They also have four-wheeled and two-wheeled ambulances to reach hard-to-access areas, especially during heavy traffic and long road jams.
Azhar urged the public to make good preparations before going on the road, ensuring both their physical condition and vehicles are in good shape. "Get enough rest, follow traffic rules, and make good use of health posts if you're feeling tired or need assistance," he said.
