Indonesia to Attend First BRICS Meeting as Full Member

TEMPO.CO, JakartaIndonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono will attend the Foreign Ministers Meeting (FMM) of BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa) Plus in mid-2025.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Rolliansyah Soemirat said this will be Indonesia's first BRICS meeting after being formally accepted as a new member.

"This will be the first BRICS’ Foreign Ministers Meeting attended by the Indonesian Foreign Minister following our recent entry as a new member," Rolliansyah said in a press conference on Thursday, April 24, 2025.

According to Rolliansyah, the meeting will cover various strategic issues, including global and regional political and security affairs. Other topics of discussion will include global governance reform, the role of member countries, and the Global South meeting.

"This meeting will also discuss the long-standing goal of BRICS countries to strengthen cooperation in multilateralism," he added.

The BRICS FMM is a crucial meeting to prepare for various discussions of possible deliverables of the BRICS summit scheduled for around June.

"Various formats related to the meeting or even the BRICS summit are still under discussion," he said.
