TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The duel between the Indonesian U-20 national team and Syria in the second match of the Mandiri U-20 Challenge Series 2025 held at the Gelora Delta Stadium, Sidoarjo, Monday night, January 27, 2025, ended with a score of 0-2 for Syria's advantage.
Syria opened the scoring in the 28th minute through Majd Manaf Ramadan. Next, Anas Hussam added to the lead in the 66th minute.
This is Syria's second win in this mini tournament. Previously, they beat India with a score of 6-1. For Indonesia, this is the second defeat after being defeated by Jordan 1-0 last Friday.
Course of the Match
- First Half
Coach Indra Sjafri made five player rotations compared to the squad that was previously fielded when they were defeated by Jordan 0-1 in the first match last Friday. In the defense line, Mufli Hidayat and Alfharezzi Buffon were played as starters replacing Iqbal Gwijangge and Sulthan Zaky.
In midfield, Achmad Zidan was played as a substitute for Welber Jardim, paired with Toni Firmansyah who was again played from the first minute. Next in the front row, Arkhan Kaka and Tirie Ardianto Manuri were played. Both replaced Fandi Bagus Pamungkas and Riski Afrisal.
At the start of the match, Arkhan Kaka and his teammates tried to break down Syria's defense. Dony Tri Pamungkas almost scored a goal from a free kick, but his shot still hit the goalpost.
When Indra Sjafri's team tried to score first, their goal conceded. The repeated attacks launched by Mohamad Ismael Kwid's team paid off in the 28th minute, changing the score to 0-1 for Syria's advantage.
After Ikram Al Giffari struggled to keep his goal from conceding by repeatedly blocking shots from Syrian players, his goal was finally penetrated. Majd Manaf Ramadan scored a goal through a header following a pass from Khaled Kamal Alhamoush.
After conceding, Indonesia's tempo decreased. Dony Tri Pamungkas and his teammates tried to build attacks more patiently. This effort paid off with the creation of an opportunity in the 39th minute. At that time, Dony sent a pass to Mufli Hidayat who appeared from the right wing and was able to head the ball but still missed.
Five minutes before the break, coach Indra Sjafri pulled Jehan Pahlevi to be replaced by Marselinus Ama Ola. Ola's entry had an impact on the attack even though he was unable to create a reply goal, so that the temporary score in the first half was 0-1 for Syria's advantage.
- Second Half
When the match resumed, the Indonesian U-20 national team played bravely. However, when focusing on attacking, Indonesia's goal almost conceded in the 56th minute. Khaled Kamal Alhamoush who was not guarded received a through ball, then shot it into the Indonesian goal. However, the ball was saved by goalkeeper Ikram.
In the 59th minute, Ikram shone again. He was able to ward off a shot from a Syrian player who launched a quick counterattack.
Indonesia's goal was again conceded in the 65th minute. Player number seven, Anas Hussam, put the ball into Indonesia's goal, through a free kick not far from the box. His shot that was heading to the right corner of the goal could not be warded off by Giffari. The score changed to 0-2.
Coach Indra Sjafri brought in his main striker Jens Raven in the 68th minute. Not long after Raven entered, Riski Afrizal managed to put the ball into Syria's goal after receiving a through ball from his teammate. However, the goal was not valid because Riski was already offside.
In the remaining time of the match, both teams struggled to score goals. Several opportunities were created but no goals were added. The final score of the match was 0-2 for Syria's victory. For Syria, this was their second victory after defeating India with a score of 6-1 in their first match.
