TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia's Coordinating Minister for Empowerment of Society, Abdul Muhaimin Iskandar, stated that the plan to improve educational and religious facilities will be expanded. This effort follows the collapse of the Al Khoziny Islamic Boarding School building, which resulted in the deaths of dozens of students.
The initial plan to improve the facilities, which was aimed at the Al Khoziny Islamic Boarding School in Sidoarjo, East Java, will now be expanded to various religious-based public services. "In addition to the Al Khoziny Islamic Boarding School, we will implement these measures for all forms of religious-based public service foundations," said Cak Imin, Muhaimin's nickname, after a coordination meeting at the Coordinating Ministry for Empowerment of Society in Central Jakarta on Friday, October 17, 2025.
These religious-based public services include places of worship, orphanages, and educational institutions. "Religious activities involving the public and facilities or buildings at risk will also be a concern," he said.
According to the politician from the National Awakening Party (PKB), this coordination meeting on Friday, October 17, 2025, is a follow-up to President Prabowo Subianto's instructions to ensure the safety and comfort of learning for students in all Islamic boarding schools in Indonesia.
The meeting was also attended by Minister of Religious Affairs Nasaruddin Umar, Minister of Public Works (PU) Dody Hanggodo, State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi, Deputy State Secretary Juri Ardiantoro, and Budget Director General of the Ministry of Finance Luky Alfirman.
Cak Imin said that President Prabowo is concerned about the risks associated with buildings and Islamic boarding schools in Indonesia, especially following the collapse of the Al Khoziny Islamic Boarding School. "The meeting is also to anticipate the students getting comfort and security during the learning process," he said.
Cak Imin stated that this coordination meeting concluded that Minister of Public Works Dody Hanggodo will continue the audit and assistance processes for vulnerable Islamic boarding schools. "Especially the threat of discomfort in learning due to building security," he said.
Furthermore, the government will help with the construction permits process to ensure the safety of building usage. "In addition to audits, the permit process will be assisted and must be managed with various mechanisms that will be further perfected," he said.
Additionally, the government will offer construction skills training and certification to students who are at least 18 years old. He stated that the training is part of efforts to enhance competence and knowledge of the educational site within the Islamic boarding school environment. The training will not only be provided to students but also to the general public involved in managing religious educational institutions. "To add to their knowledge and vocation, not only for students," he said.
