TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia's Ministry of Immigration and Corrections provides Special Remission (RK) to prisoners and Special Reduction of Sentence (PMP) to teenage inmates at Christmas 2024. A total of 15,976 recipients of RK and PMP this year consist of prisoners and teenage inmates throughout Indonesia.
Minister of Immigration and Corrections Agus Andrianto explained that the provision of remission and PMP is a form of appreciation for prisoners and teenage inmates who have shown good behavior, obeyed the rules, actively participated in the guidance program and have reduced their risk level. This appreciation also aims to stimulate inmates to be able to reintegrate more quickly into society.
"The correctional system views punishment not merely as revenge, but must prioritize the aspect of guidance so that it can lead inmates to repent and realize the mistakes they have made," he said in an official release on Wednesday, December 25, 2024.
Of the 15,807 inmates, 15,692 of them received RK I (partial reduction of sentence) and 116 others received RK II (immediate release). In addition, 169 inmates received special PMP for Christmas 2024, with 166 receiving PMP I (partial reduction) and 3 receiving PMP II (immediate release).
The granting of this remission is based on various regulations, including Law Number 22 of 2022 concerning Corrections, Government Regulation Number 32 of 1999 and its amendments, and Presidential Decree Number 174 of 1999 concerning Remission.
Agus also conveyed his congratulations to the prisoners and inmates who celebrated Christmas 2024 and received remission. He encouraged the prisoners and inmates to continue to increase productivity and improve themselves. In addition, appreciation was given to Correctional officers, the government, and related parties for their contributions in supporting the development of inmates.
"I hope that the development that you have received can build your capacity to become potential human resources, so that your return to society can provide benefits," he said.
