TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto visited Paris for less than five hours for a closed-door meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron on Friday, January 23, 2026. Prabowo's visit was made after completing a series of visits to the UK and Switzerland earlier this week.
According to Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya, Prabowo and Macron's meeting lasted around 2.5 hours, starting with a dinner. "Both leaders are committed to strengthening the strategic partnership in various fields that have been established for a long time," Teddy wrote on his Instagram account @sekretariat.kabinet, Saturday, January 24, 2026.
Teddy explained that the meeting between Prabowo and Macron was also to coordinate on global issues and to discuss France's role as host of the G7 summit.
During the meeting, President Macron was accompanied by Chief of Presidential Staff General Vincent Giraud and Foreign Adviser Emmanuel Bonne, as well as French Ambassador to Indonesia Fabien Penone. Meanwhile, President Prabowo was accompanied by Teddy Indra Wijaya and State Protocol Chief Andy Rachmianto.
Prabowo previously arrived at Orly Airport, Paris, France, on Friday, January 23, 2026, around 14:50 local time. He came to attend Macron's dinner invitation.
Prabowo was directly welcomed by Macron upon his arrival at the Elysee Palace courtyard. The welcoming procession included the Honor Guards and a military band that played as Prabowo stepped out of the vehicle.
The two heads of state were seen shaking hands and embracing each other before walking into the palace together. President Prabowo and President Macron then went to Le Salon des Portraits, the room where the dinner was held.
Prior to visiting France, Prabowo Subianto attended the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting 2026 in Davos, Switzerland. In the forum, the Head of State delivered a special speech, boasting about his government's achievements over the past year.
