Iranian Ambassador Urges Islamic Countries to Boycott Israeli Products

1 day ago 19

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Indonesia, Mohammad Boroujerdi, called on the member countries of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to take concrete steps in countering Israel's military aggression. According to him, one way to confront Israel is by boycotting products related to Israel's economic interests.

"Islamic countries should not just stop at condemnation. Boycotting Israeli products can exert real pressure to stop the aggression," Boroujerdi said during a press conference at his residence in Menteng, Central Jakarta, on Tuesday, June 17, 2025.

Boroujerdi believes that actions pressing on the economy are far more effective than mere political condemnation.

He discussed the urgency of utilizing control over the energy sector by Islamic countries to press on Israel's economic power, which is suspected of funding military attacks in Gaza, Lebanon, and Iran.

"OIC member states have agreed to various peace declarations but have no control over their implementation. It's different when we talk about controlling energy flows or other vital supplies. That can be a weapon of pressure," he said.

Furthermore, Boroujerdi also considered that the silent or half-hearted attitude of the international community actually provides room for Israel's aggression to spread to various regions.

He warned that other Islamic countries might be the next targets if there is no serious pressure on Israel at this time.

"It's time they are taught a lesson. We want to protect the Islamic nation. We want the world to know that there is a price to pay for attacking Iran," he said.

Recently, Boroujerdi explained, Israel has attacked residential complexes, government buildings, defense infrastructure, transportation, and nuclear facilities in various cities in Iran.

He emphasized that these attacks not only caused extensive damage but also resulted in the deaths of several high-ranking military commanders, scientists, university professors, as well as women and children.

Boroujerdi explained that Israel has expanded its attacks by targeting economic and public infrastructure such as oil refineries and oil product distribution centers.

These attacks occurred at a time when Iran is in the process of nuclear negotiations and has chosen the path of diplomacy and dialogue.

"In the current situation, the continuation of nuclear negotiations no longer has rational justification, and the party responsible for the termination of these negotiations is the regime that imposes aggressive war on Iran," he said.

Furthermore, Boroujerdi emphasized that Iran uses the principle of self-defense to take a series of steps, including retaliatory missile attacks on the regime's military headquarters and targeting its economic facilities.

"Iran is determined to defend itself from aggression, and by looking at the attacks on the lives and property of innocent people across the country," he said.
