TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The United States (US) has set April 9, 2026 as a potential date to end the ongoing war in Iran, amid hopes for talks between the two parties, as reported by Israeli media on Monday.
"Washington has set April 9 as the target date to end the war, leaving about 21 days for continued battles and negotiations," said the Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper, quoting an unnamed Israeli official as reported by Anadolu.
"Conversation between Iran and the United States is expected to take place later this week in Pakistan," said the source.
The source acknowledged that Washington has not informed Israel about the details of their contact with the Chairman of the Iranian Parliament, Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf.
According to the newspaper, Israel estimates that the US has already engaged in indirect negotiations with Qalibaf, following US President Donald Trump's statement about contacts with Iran aimed at ending the war.
However, Qalibaf stated on Monday that no negotiations have taken place with the US, and dismissed the report of negotiations as "fake news" aimed at manipulating the financial and oil markets.
On Monday, Trump stated that he has ordered a five-day delay for all attacks on Iran's power plants and energy infrastructure, citing "very good and productive" talks with Tehran over the past two days.
Regional escalation has continued since the US and Israel launched joint attacks on Iran on February 28, which have so far resulted in the deaths of more than 1,340 people, including the then Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei.
Tehran has retaliated with drone and missile attacks targeting Israel, along with Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf states hosting US military assets, causing casualties and infrastructure damage, as well as disrupting global markets and flights.
