Jakarta Floods: Dozens of Neighborhoods Still Inundated, Thousands Displaced

2 months ago 71

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta’s Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) reports that 85 neighborhood units (RT) across West, South, and East Jakarta remain flooded as of Wednesday, March 5. South Jakarta is the worst affected.

“In one neighborhood in Pengadegan, South Jakarta, floodwaters have reached 3.1 meters,” said BPBD Jakarta’s Head of Data and Information, Mohamad Yohan, in a written statement.

The flooding is due to heavy rainfall from Sunday night through Tuesday night, compounded by upstream water from Bogor, West Java, and overflowing rivers, including Pesanggrahan, Krukut, Ciliwung, and Angke.

Flood Levels by Municipality/Administrative Cities:

West Jakarta (18 RT affected):

  • Rawa Buaya: 1.5 meters
  • Kedoya Selatan: 90 cm
  • Kembangan Selatan: 60 cm
  • Kebon Jeruk: 60–100 cm
  • Duri Kosambi: 60 cm
  • Kedaung Kali Angke: 30 cm
  • Kembangan Utara: 60–80 cm

South Jakarta (25 RT affected):

  • Lenteng Agung: 30 cm
  • Pondok Pinang: 1 meter
  • Pengadegan: 3.1 meters
  • Rawajati: 30 cm
  • Pejaten Timur: 30–120 cm
  • Bintaro: 1 meter
  • Pesanggrahan: 60 cm
  • Kebon Baru: 60–200 cm

East Jakarta (42 RT affected, mostly due to Ciliwung overflow):

  • Bidara Cina: 1.8–2.2 meters
  • Kampung Melayu: 40 cm–2.5 meters
  • Cawang: 90 cm–2.2 meters
  • Cililitan: 1.9–2 meters

Roads and Evacuations

Floodwaters have also rendered two major roads impassable: Puri Kembangan in West Jakarta (40 cm deep) and Puri Mutiara in South Jakarta (70 cm deep).

The BPBD reports that thousands of residents have been displaced. "The number of refugees recorded is 5,219 people," said Mohamad Yohan.

Response teams are deployed across affected areas, working to expedite flood drainage and relief efforts.
