TEMPO.COJakarta – The Jakarta provincial government will carry out weather modification in the coming weeks as part of its effort to mitigate extreme weather for the next 25 days. This initiative was announced by Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo.

According to Pramono, the provincial government is currently coordinating with the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) and the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) to execute the weather modification.

"We have already prepared the budget because there is a possibility that in the next 25 days, anomalies and extreme weather conditions may occur several times," Pramono stated at the Jakarta City Hall on Friday, October 31, 2025.

In addition, Pramono also urged the people of Jakarta to be alert for potential tidal floods, which he mentioned may occur from November 6 to 8.

Pramono hopes that any potential floods in Jakarta in the coming weeks can be effectively mitigated. "Hopefully, when it happens, there won't be simultaneous upstream floods, tidal floods, or local floods that have been occurring," said the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle politician.

Prior rainfalls caused floods in several areas of Jakarta on Thursday, October 30, 2025. Rain once again poured over Jakarta and its surrounding areas the following afternoon, Friday, October 31, 2025. Rain has been consistent in the past few days as the rainy season arrives in Indonesia.

Minister of Public Works, Dody Hanggodo, revealed the flood disaster mitigation potential across most parts of Indonesia during the rainy season, which runs from October 2025 to March 2026. He mentioned that the Ministry of Public Works team is on standby 24/7 to monitor the needs of areas requiring additional water pumps to drain flooded locations when floods occur.

"During the rainy season, our team is 100% ready to supply heavy equipment, including pumps. We also provide additional pumps needed for flood-prone areas, such as Central Java, Sumatra, Sulawesi, and Jakarta," Dody said during a media briefing in Jakarta on Friday, October 31, 2025.

Dody urged regional governments to monitor the potential for floods in flood-prone areas. He then requested an immediate policy to prohibit the construction of new buildings around rivers or streams, as this could potentially worsen the impact of flood disasters.
