TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Japan on February 25, 2025, held a handover event for the provision of water purification facilities in Kalangbancar Village, Grobogan Regency, Central Java Province, Indonesia. This is aid from the Japanese Government under the Grassroots Grants Assistance for Human Security program. The aid project is valued at JPY 6,497,680 (Rp654 million).
The Japanese Embassy in Jakarta, in a statement, explained that the handover event was attended by Ohmichi Takuma, Second Secretary of the Japanese Embassy in Indonesia, Oetojo, the Geyer District Chief, Sutrisno, the Head of Kalangbancar Village, and Glann Almiro, the Manager of the Clean Water Department of Yamaha Motor Nuansa Indonesia as a representative of Indonesia.
Japan provided this type of aid because previously, most of the residents of Kalangbancar Village were unable to buy water regularly due to the high price of bottled water. As a result, they were forced to use water from the nearest river, which had water quality problems, to meet their household needs. The contaminated river water had caused many residents of the village to suffer from diseases such as kidney stones.
To improve the situation, Japan through the Grassroots Grants Assistance for Human Security in collaboration with PT. Yamaha Motor Nuansa Indonesia and the Insan Sembada Foundation carried out the provision of water purification facilities. The residents were also given technical guidance in the development, management, and operation of the water facilities.
After the improvement, approximately 2,000 residents of Kalangbancar Village finally gained access to clean and safe water. This is expected to improve the health conditions of the village residents.
The Japanese government hopes that this project can also provide affordable water for the village residents by building water purification facilities in Kalangbancar Village, Grobogan Regency, Central Java Province. To achieve this goal, a management committee consisting of village residents has been formed to manage the facilities.
