Jokowi Reveals Mahathir Mohamad's Simple Secrets to Staying Fit at 100

TEMPO.CO, Solo - Former Prime Minister of Malaysia, Mahathir Mohamad visited Indonesia, making a trip to the residence of the 7th President, Joko Widodo or Jokowi in Solo City, Central Java, on Wednesday afternoon, February 26, 2025. At the age of 100 years this year, Mahathir maintained a visibly fit and energetic presence.

Accompanied by his eldest daughter, Marina Mahathir, Mahathir was hosted for lunch by Jokowi and his wife, Iriana, at their home in Sumber Village, Banjarsari Sub-District. While journalists were allowed to take photos and videos in turn, they were seen enjoying their lunch together, accompanied by the melodies of keroncong music. Following lunch, Jokowi personally escorted  Mahathir and his entourage to explore several tourist sites in Solo City.

After their meeting, Jokowi revealed their discussion. In their relaxed conversation, Jokowi mentioned that his wife, Iriana, had asked about Mahathir's secret to maintaining such good health at 100 years old. "Earlier, Ibu Iriana asked Tun Mahathir, considering he is already 100 years old, what's the secret?" Jokowi said, imitating his wife's question to Mahathir.

The advice given by Mahathir was surprisingly quite simple: eat moderately and maintain a positive mindset. "Tun Mahathir said, firstly, eat a little, moderately. Secondly, think positively, be productive, and think positively. I agree with everything," said Jokowi.

He further noted that their meal was enhanced by the performance of the keroncong song "Bengawan Solo", composed by Gesang, a song that enjoys considerable popularity in Malaysia. "He (Mahathir) was so happy with the song, it was sung twice," he said.

Jokowi clarified that his meeting with Mahathir was a friendly gathering, acknowledging their long-standing relationship. "Just a regular gathering, because I have been good with Tun  Mahathir since I was the Governor of Jakarta until serving as the president, and when I visited Kuala Lumpur, I was also received by him," he said.

He also relayed Mahathir's appreciation for Indonesia's success in ensuring food security for its large population. "Firstly, he conveyed his great appreciation for Indonesia's achievement in being able to provide food, enough to meet the needs of its 280 million people," he said.

Conversely, Jokowi highlighted the current rise in rice prices in Malaysia. He expressed a desire to facilitate the export of Indonesian agricultural products to help address this issue. "I just want to try to make sure that our MSME agricultural and fisheries products can penetrate export markets, as well as the local market, on a much larger scale," he said.
