TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Former president Joko Widodo (Jokowi) conveyed the reason for the absence of Indonesian Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka during the inauguration of several ministers and deputy ministers at the State Palace in Central Jakarta on Wednesday, September 17, 2025. Jokowi said his eldest son was on a visit to Papua New Guinea.
"The vice president had just visited Papua New Guinea yesterday," said Jokowi when met at his residence in the Sumber Village, Banjarsari District, Solo, on Friday, September 19, 2025.
When asked about President Prabowo Subianto's recent reshuffle of the Red and White Cabinet for the second time, Jokowi did not comment much. Jokowi stated that the reshuffle was within the full authority of the president when asked whether it involved his son.
"A reshuffle is fully within the president's authority. It's the president's prerogative. According to our constitution. Well, that's it," said Jokowi.
On Wednesday, September 17, 2025, Prabowo presided over the inauguration of 11 government officials, including ministers, deputy ministers, agency heads, deputy agency heads, and presidential staff.
The Red and White Cabinet reshuffle was intended to fill two vacant ministerial positions: the Coordinating Minister for Politics and Security (Menkopolkam) and the Minister of Youth and Sports (Menpora). Djamari Chaniago holds the Menkopolkam position, and Erick Thohir holds the Menpora position.
The reshuffle is stipulated in Presidential Decree (Keppres) Number 96B of 2025 and Number 97B of 2025 on the dismissal of the Head of the Presidential Communication, the Head and Deputy Head of the Presidential Staff, as well as the appointment of the Head and Deputy Head of Agencies, the Head of the Presidential Staff, and the President's Special Advisor for Security and Public Order, and Police Reform.
Then, Keppres Number 152/TPA of 2025 on the dismissal from the Main High Leadership Position and the Middle High Leadership Position, as well as the appointment to the Main High Leadership Position in the Government Procurement Policy Agency.
In addition to Erick Thohir being dismissed from the Minister of State-Owned Enterprises position to become the Minister of Youth and Sports, several other officials who were inaugurated by Prabowo on Wednesday are the Coordinating Minister for Politics and Security, Djamari Chaniago; Deputy Minister of Labor, Afriansyah Noor; Deputy Minister of Environment, Rohmat Marzuki; Head of the LKPP, Sarah Sadiqa; and the Head of the Government Communication Agency, Angga Raka Prabowo.
Then there are the Deputy Head of the National Nutrition Agency (BGN), Sonny Sanjaya; Deputy Minister of Politics, Farida Faricha; Deputy Head of BGN Naniek S Dayang; Special Advisor to the President for Security and Police Reform, Ahmad Dofir; and the Presidential Staff Office, Muhammad Qodari.
