TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Kampong Glam, also known as Kampong Gelam, is one of Singapore's oldest urban districts. Named "gelam" after the gelam trees, a type of eucalyptus that once thrived in the area, this historic district's roots trace back to Singapore's colonial era.
Today, Kampong Glam is a must-visit destination that showcases a harmonious blend of tradition and modernity in the Lion City. During Ramadan, the area transforms into a vibrant bazaar, offering a tempting array of culinary delights.
As reported by Honeycombers and The Straits Times, let's explore the diverse and delicious food stalls at the Kampong Glam Ramadan Bazaar, aptly named Gemilang Kampong Gelam 2025. Be sure to arrive with an empty stomach, ready to savor various flavors.
1. Overrice
For those who cannot live without rice, mostly Asians, Overrice is a welcome sight at the Kampong Glam Ramadan bazaar. This stall serves New York-style rice bowls filled with various meat or vegetarian protein options, including tempeh and falafel, providing the perfect energy boost after a day of fasting.
2. La Birria Tacos
La Birria Tacos offers Muslim patrons the chance to experience the rich flavors of Mexican cuisine, all guaranteed halal. As stated on their official Instagram account, @labirriataco, they will be open daily from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. during the bazaar.
3. Sumego
Sumego is attracting crowds at the Kampong Glam 2025 Ramadan bazaar with its signature Sumego burger, which boasts a rich, savory flavor thanks to the addition of bone marrow sauce. For a simpler yet equally satisfying option, try their classic burger, which features caramelized onions that perfectly complement melted cheddar cheese.
4. Warung Man Baba
Amid the many stalls offering Western-style menus, Warung Man Baba stands out as a haven for traditional flavors. This eatery serves classic dishes such as otah, curry puffs, and deng deng, which will certainly evoke nostalgia among older generations. To quench your thirst, try a refreshing glass of air kathira.
5. Meokja
The Korean wave, or hallyu, has influenced not only music preferences but also culinary tastes. Meokja is a must-visit stall for fans of South Korean culture, offering authentic halal Korean cuisine. Here, you can break your fast with kimbap, tteokbokki, or sweet hotteok.
6. Gohed Gostan by Tarik
For those craving a heavy meal, Gohed Gostan by Tarik is the perfect stop. This stall, affiliated with the popular Tarik Cafe on Arab Street and Bali Lane and known for its pulled tea, is offering three signature dishes at this year's Ramadan bazaar: pasta with tandoori chicken, seafood arrabiata, and creamy steak carbonara.
7. Picanhas'
One of the favorites at the Kampong Ramadan bazaar every year is Picanhas', a stylish Brazilian steakhouse that enjoys widespread popularity in Singapore. Customers can order a variety of their beloved dishes, including shredded meat in pita bread or steak with mashed potatoes.
8. Croissant Tarik
Looking for something unique? Croissant Tarik offers a delightful twist on the classic French pastry, with croissants filled with pulled cheese and drizzled with various sauces, such as white chocolate. While it may look messy, each bite delivers an incredible sensation of cheese and melted sauce.
9. Matcha Klasik
For a refreshing beverage, head to Matcha Klasik, where customers can choose from a variety of Japanese-style green tea drinks, ranging from matcha latte to matcha mango. The Strait Times reports that the green tea is hand-whisked and blended with wheat milk to enhance its flavor.
10. Offday Coffee
Another must-visit stall at the Kampong Glam Ramadan Bazaar is Offday Coffee. One of their trending items is the strawberry matcha, but other tempting options, such as watermelon milk, Solero, and iced pandan milk tea, are also worth trying.
