A furious Andy Reid threatened to kick Travis Kelce off his Kansas City Chiefs team during their fiery sideline argument on Sunday night, it has been revealed.

The Chiefs head coach was seen losing his cool with Kelce towards the end of the first half of their game against the New York Giants, before his player gave it right back to him in a shocking moment which quickly went viral.

After beating the Giants, Reid was quick to play down their clash in his postgame press conference, insisting it simply comes with the territory in an 'emotional' sport.

Yet according to lip reader Nicola Hickling, the 67-year-old issued a brutal threat to Kelce during that exchange after he failed to catch a pass from Patrick Mahomes.

As the tight end walked over to him following his mishap, Reid shouted while throwing out his right arm: 'Tell me why I shouldn't kick you off!'

He then bumped his chest into him and said: 'How about that?'

Kelce, who had just failed to take a catch, responded by telling Reid that he injured his ankle

But Kelce responded: 'It's my ankle, I need to see doc about that. I could've saved that, if it wasn't for that.'

When the incident occurred late in the second quarter, Kelce had just two catches for four yards. He finished the game with four of seven attempted catches for 26 yards - far from the numbers he will have hoped to put up - as the Chiefs sealed a 22-9 win.

Following the victory, Reid brushed off the argument with Kelce in New Jersey, insisting that he loves his passion.

'He's a passionate guy and I love that part,' he told reporters about the bust-up.

'I've been through a lot of things with him, that's all part of it.

'I love that he loves to play the game, that's what I love. And it's an emotional game, so I'll take it.'

The incident was worryingly similar to Super Bowl LVIII at Allegiant Stadium in February 2024, when Kelce bumped his coach and caused him to lose his footing.

In that meltdown, the Kansas City legend had to be held back by a teammate - but this time he was thankfully able to cool off without any assistance from the rest of the roster.

Despite getting their first win of the season, the Chiefs still flattered to deceive in their victory over the Giants, with Kelce producing another below-par display on the night.

Fans were therefore left concerned by his clash with Reid, including one who wrote: 'Man, you can feel this whole situation splitting at the seams, and it's just a matter of time before all hell breaks loose. Kelce looks basically disinterested at this point.'

Another added: 'This team might actually be done,' while a third wrote: 'KC is falling apart.'
