TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia's Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) stated that one of the conditions requested by the Singapore government for the extradition of the e-KTP corruption fugitive Paulus Tannos is certainty about the continuation of his legal process.
"There is a request, one of which is a statement from Indonesia, in this case from PT [entity], that if extradited, prosecution can and will be carried out, that's one of them," said KPK Spokesperson Tessa Mahardhika Sugiarto when confirmed in Jakarta on Saturday.
Tessa stated that there are differences in the legal system used by Indonesia and Singapore, therefore KPK along with all relevant agencies are currently focusing on completing the extradition requirements from the Lion City.
"Cooperation is needed between institutions, between agencies, including KPK, the Prosecutor's Office, the Ministry of Law, and the Police to complete documents that tend to have no legal basis in Indonesia; we are looking for similarities there," she said.
The KPK spokesperson, who has a background as a detective of the Indonesian National Police, said that the Indonesian government plans to send the documents for Tannos' extradition next week.
Paulus Tannos is a fugitive of the KPK in the electronic ID project case. Tannos has been on the wanted list (DPO) since October 19, 2021.
Tannos was successfully arrested in Singapore by Singapore's anti-corruption agency, the Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau (CPIB). Prior to the arrest, the International Relations Division of the Indonesian National Police sent a provisional arrest request to the Singapore authorities to assist in the arrest of the fugitive.
On January 17, 2025, the Attorney General of Singapore announced that Tannos had been arrested. So far, the Indonesian government is in the process of extraditing Tannos.
The Minister of Law (Menkum) Supratman Andi Agtas stated that the Indonesian government has 45 days to complete the documents, so the various documents needed for Tannos' extradition must be submitted by March 3, 2025, at the latest.
"But I assure you that we will not wait until March 3. Yes, it will be done soon," said Supratman after a press conference in Jakarta on Wednesday.
After the documents are completed, Supratman explained that the request for Tannos' extradition will first be processed in the Singapore Court.
However, regarding Tannos' trial process in the Merlion Country, he said, the Indonesian government cannot interfere because after the trial and a first-instance court decision in Singapore, there will still be an appeal process.
Nevertheless, he is optimistic that the extradition request process submitted by Indonesia for Tannos will run smoothly.
Currently, the Ministry of Law and Human Rights of the Republic of Indonesia, the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) of the Republic of Indonesia, the Indonesian National Police (Polri), the Attorney General's Office (Kejagung) of the Republic of Indonesia, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Kemenlu) of the Republic of Indonesia continue to coordinate to expedite the extradition process.
"We have also formed a working team between the Ministry of Law, KPK, Polri, Kejagung, and Kemenlu," he added.
