TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Commodity Futures Trading Supervisory Agency (Bappebti) outlined six licensed digital physical gold traders in Indonesia. Tirta Karma Senjaya, Head of the Commodity Futures Trading Development and Development Bureau (PBK), explained that a digital physical gold trading ecosystem has been established, comprising two futures exchanges: PT Bursa Berjangka Jakarta and PT Bursa Komoditi dan Derivatif Indonesia. The futures clearing institutions involved are PT Kliring Berjangka Indonesia and PT Indonesia Clearing House.
“In addition to companies that act as futures exchanges and clearing institutions, there are also companies that act as storage managers,” Tirta said in a written statement released on Wednesday, January 1, 2025.
He mentioned that the storage managers are PT ICDX Logistik Berikat and PT Kinesis Monetary Indonesia. PT ABI Komoditi Berjangka serves as an intermediary for digital physical gold traders, while the Indonesian Digital Gold Traders Association (PPEDI) represents the industry as a whole.
The six digital physical gold traders licensed by Bappebti are: PT Indonesia Logam Pratama (Treasury), PT Quantum Metal Indonesia (QuantumMetal), PT Syariah Koin Indonesia (Shariacoin), PT Indogold Makmur Sejahtera (IndoGold), PT Laku Emas Indonesia (LakuEmas), and PT Pluang Emas Sejahtera (Pluang).
Bappebti also reported that the value of digital-physical gold trading reached Rp53.3 trillion between January and November 2024. This figure represents a 556 percent increase compared to the same period in the previous year, which recorded Rp8.1 trillion. The volume of gold transactions reached 43.9 tons, a substantial increase of 430.6 percent.
“An increase of 556 percent compared to the same period in the previous year, which was Rp8.1 trillion,” Tirta reiterated, emphasizing the significant growth.
He attributed the rise in transaction value, at least in part, to increasing global gold prices. “In addition, gold is still the choice of people in transactions until now,” he added, highlighting gold's enduring appeal as an investment.
However, Tirta acknowledged the potential challenges that economic conditions and the future of gold trading may present. To address these challenges, the PBK aims to optimize its strategies and implement various measures, including further development of digital-physical gold trading, to ensure continued growth in the sector.
