Liverpool defender Amara Nallo was sent off just 12 minutes after coming off the bench against Crystal Palace – and has now been sent off in both of his appearances for the club so far.

The 18-year-old came on for Alexis Mac Allister in the 67th minute of Wednesday's Carabao Cup defeat at Anfield, but was shown a straight red card in the 79th for bringing down Palace's Justin Devenny who was set to go clean through on goal.

It was a nightmare evening for Nallo, who made his senior debut for Arne Slot's side in the 3-2 Champions League defeat at PSV Eindhoven in January.

Then, he replaced Jayden Danns in the 83rd minute but saw red four minutes later for denying a goalscoring opportunity in what Slot described as a 'cruel' moment.

Wednesday night's red card means he has been sent off twice in just 16 minutes of professional football for Liverpool.

Nallo joined Liverpool in August 2023 after coming through the West Ham academy, and has frequently featured for the Under 21 side.

He made his England U18s debut in March 2024 and then moved up the U19s in October of that year.

Hopes will remain high for the youngster. When he was at West Ham, U16s coach Carlton Cole said: 'I would describe Amara as a Rolls Royce of a centre-back.

'He has a great left foot and is elegant when he moves with the ball.

'He can play the ball with both feet and has been working on his heading as well.

'He's a player who has a high ceiling.'
