TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The director of Citizen Protection at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Judha Nugraha, spoke about an Indonesian national facing death penalty charges in Ethiopia for alleged drug trafficking. Judha said the ministry continues to monitor the case and provide legal assistance for her.

Citing Antara, Linda Yuliana is a resident of Liangjulang Village, Kadipaten Sub-district, Majalengka Regency, West Java. She was arrested at Bole Addis Ababa International Airport on suspicion of cocaine smuggling.
According to Linda's mother, Dede Sumiati, 66, her daughter left for Ethiopia in June 2024 after being offered a job as a gold smelter, but the job never came even after a week passed.
On the contrary, the 28-year-old woman was asked to deliver a bag of chocolates to Laos by someone she knew at the hotel where she was staying. Linda unsuspectingly brought the package to the airport, but was arrested by Ethiopian authorities upon the discovery of narcotics inside it.
"Linda immediately called us crying. She said she didn't know anything and felt set up. I am sure my daughter is innocent," said Dede.
On Wednesday, March 5, 2025, the Regent of Majalengka, Eman Suherman, stated that Linda is suspected to have become a victim of a drug ring after unknowingly carrying a bag containing illicit goods. He mentioned that the Majalengka Regency Government is striving to ensure that Linda receives adequate legal protection during her time in Ethiopia.
Meanwhile, the Head of the Office of Manpower, Cooperatives, and SMEs (DK2UKM) of Majalengka Regency, Arif Daryana, admitted to having coordinated with the central government to ensure proper legal assistance for Linda.
