Manchester City turned their 'horror show' of a season into the punchline on Friday night, staging a tongue-in-cheek Halloween bash titled 'I Know What You Did Last Season'.

The former champions leaned into the joke, mocking their own 'horrific' 2024-25 campaign with a full-blown horror-movie theme at their Manchester base.

Guests were greeted by a cinema-style entrance, red curtains and a glowing sign announcing the feature presentation.

Inside, stacks of vintage televisions flickered beneath scarlet lighting and walls were plastered with 'Wanted' posters for Pep Guardiola, Erling Haaland and several team-mates.

City's decision to parody themselves is seen as a nod to the turbulent season they endured, finishing third in the Premier League and failing to win a major trophy for the first time in seven years.

It came after what Haaland himself once described as a 'horrific' run of form that began around Halloween last year.

The Norwegian striker was again centre stage, dressing up as the Joker, only to find he was not alone. Team-mates John Stones and Tijjani Reijnders arrived in identical costumes, complete with purple suits, white face paint and the character's trademark grin.

A viral X post titled 'Tripple Jokers' showed the trio posing together under City's blood-red lights, each smirking for the camera.

TV presenter Maya Jama was among the celebrity guests, arriving alongside partner Ruben Dias.

The pair channelled Pirates of the Caribbean, with Dias sporting a rum-soaked Jack Sparrow look and Jama presumably going as Kiera Knightley's Elizabeth Swann.

Inside the venue, walls were covered with posters from cult horror classics such as Scream and The Crow, while City's badge appeared in a blood-red design dripping down the wall.

The light-hearted tone came after a bruising year for Guardiola's men, who lost nine league games, their most since 2008, and were beaten finalists in the FA Cup.

They still secured a top-three finish and a spot at next summer's Club World Cup, but by their standards it was a campaign to forget.

City's horror-themed get-together was part of a wider wave of football-world Halloween celebrations.

Phil Foden led the family efforts elsewhere, transforming his household into the Addams Family.

Foden wore a pin-striped Gomez suit and pencilled moustache while partner Rebecca Cooke went full Morticia. Their children completed the look as Wednesday and Pugsley in matching black-and-white outfits.

Former England striker Peter Crouch also joined the fun, posting a selfie in a furry lion's mane with the caption: 'I feel like I've been stitched up here.'

Bayern Munich's Joshua Kimmich opted for an inflatable pumpkin suit, while Barcelona's Alejandro Balde and Robert Lewandowski headlined a Squid Game-inspired party in Spain.

Guardiola's side face Bournemouth on Sunday, hoping their Halloween hangover does not carry over to matchday.
