It was another disappointing afternoon for Ruben Amorim and Manchester United at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday as their neighbours ran out 3-0 winners.
On a day where Mancunian legend Ricky Hatton sadly passed away, it was fitting that Stockport-born Phil Foden opened the scoring before the inevitable Erling Haaland added another two to his City tally.
How did the two sets of players rate? Daily Mail Sport takes a look.
Manchester City
Gianluigi Donnarummma – 7.5
The Bryan Mbeumo volley. That is why City paid £26million for Donnarumma. Quiet day until a wonderful save at 2-0.
Man City ran out easy winners today at the Etihad over Manchester United
On a day where fellow Mancunian Ricky Hatton passed away, it was fitting that Phil Foden opened the scoring
Erling Haaland later sealed the victory for the Cityzens with a brace
Abdukodir Khusanov - 7
His aggression is made for derby days. Never holds back and kept United fairly quiet on the left. A few eye-catching tackles.
Ruben Dias – 6.5
Benjamin Sesko had one chance. There still needs some additional organisation back there though, with United creating opportunities.
Josko Gvardiol – 6.5
First appearance since the Club World Cup. Looked a little unsettled on the ball at times but overall solid defensively.
Nico O’Reilly – 6.5
Surprise inclusion at left back – first start of the season. Stood up to Mbeumo and Diallo, although United got some late joy on that side.
The Etihad erupted as Haaland scored his first goal, a delightful over Altay Bayindir
The Norwegian striker bullied the United defence from minute one
Rodri - 7
Influence on his team-mates is often underplayed. Constantly on the back of people with his exacting standards.
Bernardo Silva - 7
A more high-octane game plan by Pep Guardiola didn’t always suit Silva. But nobody retained possession better than City’s captain.
Tijjani Reijnders – 7
Positionally very good and an intelligent runner. Could have offered more in possession – particularly early on in the game.
Phil Foden - 8
Bright, vibrant, up for it. A performance that City have been waiting for from Foden. Top header to open the scoring.
Jeremy Doku - 9
Allowed a much freer role behind Erling Haaland. Electric there, recording two assists. Best display in a City shirt.
Erling Haaland – 8.5
Forgiven for one of the misses of the year. Two strong finishes when through for the goal and superb defensively too.
Pep Guardiola almost shed a tear before kick-off as tributes were paid to Ricky Hatton
The former world champion boxer died at the age of 46 this morning
Subs
Nico Gonzalez (for Rodri, 76)
Savinho (for Doku, 76)
Oscar Bobb (for Haaland, 87)
Nathan Ake (for Silva, 88)
Manager: Pep Guardiola – 7.5
Managed to engineer a response from his players after consecutive defeats before the international break. Kicked every ball on the touchline. A big day for him.
Manchester United
Altay Bayindir - 5
Started ahead of new signing Lammens but looked shaky from the moment he nearly gifted Haaland an early goal
Leny Yoro - 5
Brushed off the ball by Doku in the build-up to City’s second goal and replaced by Maguire soon afterwards
It was another difficult day for Ruben Amorim and his Man Unites side
The Red Devils failed to pull off a repeat of their comeback at the Etihad last season
Matthijs de Ligt - 5
Torrid afternoon and will have been relieved to see Haaland effort hit the post after trickling through his legs
Luke Shaw- 5
Came up short in the key moments. Beaten by Doku for the first goal and lost track of Haaland for the second
Noussair Mazraoui - 5.5
Handed first start of the season and linked up with Mbeumo on the right but to little effect.
Manuel Ugarte - 6.5
Maligned of late, but brought back to provide a more competitive edge and did his job
Bruno Fernandes - 5
Further proof that he is less effective in a deeper midfield role. Struggled to get in the game
The visiting defence was carved open with ease by Guardiola's men
Benjamin Sesko struggled to make an impact for the Old Trafford club once again
Patrick Dorgu - 6
Hesitant in the build-up to the first goal, but on the whole gave as good as he got against Silva
Bryan Mbuemo - 5.5
One great volley but otherwise lacked an end product and missed late chance in front of goal
Benjamin Sesko - 4
One chance on his full debut and he didn’t take it. The £74m striker was largely anonymous again
AMAD DIALLO 5 – Spent the first hour playing mainly on the left in place of Cunha and struggled to have his usual impact
Subs: Heaton,
Maguire - 5 (for Yoro, 62)
Mainoo - 6 (for Mazraoui, 62)
Zirkzee - 5 (for Ugarte, 80)
Casemiro - 5 (for Sesko, 80)
Ruben Amorim - 5
Never looked like repeating his 2-1 win here in December as he was outfoxed by Guardiola
