Manchester United were handed a reality check as their five-match unbeaten run came to an end against the 10-men of Everton.
They were given a big advantage when Idrissa Gueye was sent off early on for slapping his own team-mate, Michael Keane.
But United were second best from start to finish, ultimately going down 1-0 after Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall’s goal.

Senne Lammens - 5
Hasn't made many mistakes since stepping up to be United's No 1 but for as good as Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall's goal here was, Lammens miscalculated badly. He made a jump before the shot, replays showed, meaning his second spring left him exposed as it went in.
Leny Yoro - 6
Made a crucial clearing header across his own box in a frantic early stages but will rue his weak attempt at a challenge on edge of the box on Dewsbury-Hall, seconds before Everton went in front. Did grow into the game as United looked to stamp their foot on the second half.
Matthijs de Ligt - 6.5
Produced some really good passes that deserved better. Needs to take on more leadership when the side is creaking, as it was here for large spells. But far more of his team-mates put in worse displays than his own one.
Luke Shaw - 5.5
Started promisingly in front of England boss Thomas Tuchel, who watched this one from the directors' box, but faded. Was the target of some fierce Gary Neville criticism that he was 'conning' people by 'ambling' forward. I wouldn't go that far… but he'll be looking over his shoulder now Lisandro Martinez is back fit.

Noussair Mazraoui - 6.5
Restricted Jack Grealish to effectively nothing in the first half as he locked down the right-hand side. His crossing in attack left a lot to be desired, though, and he was sacrificed at half-time for United to get more forwards on the pitch.
Casemiro - 5
Even when Everton went down to 10 men, Casemiro found life tough in the middle of the park against former United man James Garner. Booked and ultimately hooked in place of Kobbie Mainoo. Had a great season so far but this was a real off night.
Bruno Fernandes - 6
Completed the most passes of any player on the park and he did, as Amorim hopes, got to dictate the match. But United did so little with it - plus he spurned a golden opportunity from a Mason Mount cutback - that it ultimately proved futile.
Patrick Dorgu - 4.5
Failed to produce a single accurate cross in the near-hour he played at left wing-back despite getting into good areas constantly. Missed a gilt-edged chance when he escaped to the back post only to blaze wide from Joshua Zirkzee's right-wing cross. Still very raw for the level.

Amad Diallo - 6.5
Started on the left as a No 10 and started the second half at right wing-back. Was the most positive player on the pitch in red and peppered the box with brilliant deliveries… just a shame he didn't seem to be on the same wavelength as his team-mates.
Bryan Mbeumo - 6
Was lively - as he always is - but lacked the finesse that usually comes with that business. A couple of wayward shots summed his evening up, even if he at least gave Everton cause for pause. Booked for a cynical foul to stop an Everton counter in first half stoppage time.
Joshua Zirkzee - 4.5
Was handed his first start of the season with Matheus Cunha injured - but his golden opportunity was ultimately wasted. Got bullied by James Tarkowski in the first few minutes, which set the trend, and it would continue all night long. Forced a couple of smart saves but didn't do enough.

A haunting display that produced nightmares from last season. Somehow managed to have a team looking like they had 10 men, rather than playing against 10. Was bold with his substitutions but they never really looked like scoring on a real drab night.
